Prosci Certified Change Practitioner
Wiley Everything DiSC Certified Practioner
Certified Mindfulness Mentor
Debra Mitchell is the founder of Debra Mitchell Company, a leadership development and change management consultancy based in Northern Virginia. She works with leaders and teams on the conversations that carry the most pressure and the most consequence.
Debra spent two decades in Fortune 500 and consulting environments, including Capital One, Deloitte, Booz Allen Hamilton, and BearingPoint, leading change work on large-scale transformations. That experience shaped the central premise of her practice. Strategy rarely comes apart on the plan. It comes apart in the moments when people cannot steady themselves enough to say the clear thing.
She is the creator of the 4 C’s, a framework for difficult conversations: Center, Connect, Communicate, Cultivate. Center is the foundation. A leader who is flooded loses access to everything that follows it.
The words are still there. They stop arriving in the right order.
Her practice serves two audiences. For organizations, Debra provides change management advisory and facilitates Everything DiSC and Navigating Courageous Conversations for teams working through conflict, reorganization, and new leadership. For individual leaders, she runs The Shift, a six-month cohort program for women in corporate America, limited to eight participants. It was built for the woman who has been handed vague feedback and started carrying it as a fact about herself.
Debra is a certified mindfulness mentor with five years of dedicated practice, Prosci certified in change management, an authorized Everything DiSC facilitator, and a certified Working Genius facilitator. The mindfulness work informs how she teaches regulation, which is the entry point to the rest of her curriculum.
She publishes Centerline, a weekly newsletter for leaders in the middle of change, and serves on the board of the National Association of Women Business Owners.
At the Vanguard Impact Summit, Debra is leading Confidence Under Pressure, a micro learning session on a simple regulation framework leaders can use in the moment.
Summit Session
Confidence Under Pressure: A Simple Regulation Framework
Session type: Micro Learning
Track: General
Time: 12:55 pm EST
Duration: 10 minutes
Description: You’re in a meeting. A senior leader turns to you and asks for your read. Your face gets hot. Your thinking goes flat.
Most people wait for the heat to pass before they speak. They’re waiting to feel calm. Calm isn’t coming. The meeting is moving.
Confidence under pressure is a choice you make, not a feeling you wait for. This micro learning session gives you one repeatable move to get you to that choice: a 3-breath reset you can use in the meeting you’re already in, without anyone noticing. You’ll practice it live and leave knowing exactly where you’ll use it this week.
